The Jackson Sun endorses Vance Dennis for House District 71. Dennis brings a lot to the table, but the one thing that sets him apart is his desire to represent the people of his district. He first ran for the seat against retiring incumbent Randy Rinks in 2006.

Dennis is a realist and understands the top issues facing his district are jobs and the economy. He understands, given the current state of the state's economy, some belt tightening might be in order. He favors a flat cut across the board for everything but education.

Dennis also is a realist when it comes to economic development for his district. He understands the need for completing road projects. He also understands the need for different counties in his district to work together to attract businesses that will benefit everyone.

Dennis is an attorney with a degree in agriculture business. That combination gives him an understanding of the agriculture that is the backbone of his district. It also gives him the ability to effectively frame an argument and the ability to compromise. Already, he has promised to reach across the aisle, as long as the other side is willing to compromise.

One issue that we particularly like Dennis on, the issue of open records and open government. Dennis favors open government and open records, and says both should be as transparent as possible. He's even in favor of expanding the law.

Dennis brings a refreshing sense of openness to state government. He's got the education, the understanding and the desire which could make him a first-class representative for the people of District 71.

Early voting sets records
Early voting in Tennessee has set records across the state including here in House District 71. If you have already voted, thank you! If you haven't, you can vote early through October 30. Please be sure to ask your friends, family, and co-workers to go vote early for Vance!

Mike Huckabee endorses Vance Dennis for state representative

Former Arkansas Governor and 2008 Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee this week announced his endorsement of Vance Dennis for State Representative. "Vance believes that the people of District 71 need a representative with the ability and tenacity to fight for the common-sense, conservative values that the people of Decatur, Hardin and McNairy Counties hold dear," Huckabee stated. Saying he was "proud" to endorse Vance Dennis, Huckabee noted Dennis' fiscal conservatism and pledge to fight a state income tax, a state-wide property tax, and any increase in the gas tax. In addition, Huckabee said Dennis is pro-life and supports SJR 127, a proposed constitutional amendment that would allow the Tennessee legislature to place reasonable restrictions on abortions performed in Tennessee. "I'm honored to be endorsed by Governor Huckabee," Dennis said. "He is a national leader on conservative issues and family values, and I appreciate his faith and confidence in me." I am proud to endorse Vance Dennis for the Tennessee House of Representatives for District 71. Vance is a native of Hardin County and is a practicing Attorney. Vance believes that the people of District 71 need a representative with the ability and tenacity to fight for the common-sense, conservative values that the people of Decatur, Hardin and McNairy Counties hold dear.

Vance Dennis has pledged not to raise taxes and he will be a strong voice against a state income tax. He also advocates the return of excess tax collections by means of a reduction or elimination of the sales tax on food. Vance is pro-life and supports SJR 127, a proposed constitutional amendment that would allow our legislature to place reasonable restrictions on abortions performed in Tennessee. Vance Dennis says “Eight years ago, our state Supreme Court decided that the Tennessee Constitution does not allow us to place any restrictions upon abortion, including partial-birth abortion, which means that we are one of the most liberal states in the nation in regards to abortion. That is why I support a constitutional amendment that would overturn our Supreme Court’s decision and allow Tennesseans to adopt common-sense regulations on abortion, such as waiting periods and counseling.”

McNairy County GOP Headquarters' Grand Opening

Today was the grand opening of the McNairy County Republican Headquarters in downtown Selmer. There was a steady stream of people all day.

Campaign signs, bumper stickers, shirts, hats, and buttons were available.

Just say NO!
Despite the economic uncertainty, the same old politicians in Nashville are talking about raising your taxes. Despite the high gas prices, some want to hike the gas tax. The state comptroller wants a statewide property tax. Others are just looking for any opportunity to sneak a state income tax through the legislature. Enough is enough. Vance Dennis realizes that the state has a spending problem, not a revenue problem. Just like families manage their budgets, Vance believes the state should live within its means and prioritize spending. He knows that every dollar state government spends is a dollar out of your pocket. Vance will oppose an increase in the gas tax, will vote against a statewide property tax, and will fight a state income tax. Vance will just say "NO!"

Bill Frist Endorses Vance Dennis for State Representative

The honorable Bill Frist, M.D., former majority leader of the United States Senate, returned to West Tennessee yesterday for a rally in support of Vance Dennis for state representative. In announcing his support for Vance, Frist said the people of District 71 are fortunate to have an outstanding candidate in Vance Dennis who will represent our values in Nashville. A large crowd representing Decatur, Hardin, and McNairy Counties turned out to see Senator Frist and Vance.

It was standing room only Monday night at the Adamsville Community Center as hundreds of people turned out for an early voting kickoff fish fry hosted by Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey. The Smith family performed for the crowd. After filling up on fish, the excited crowd heard from Lt. Governor Ramsey, Bob Shutt, Vance, and Dolores Gresham.

It's time for new leadership!

Job losses. High gas prices. Times are tough. That's why we need new leadership. That's why it's time to vote Vance Dennis for State Representative. Meet Vance Dennis

Growing up in the farm fields of West Tennessee, Vance Dennis went to school here, married here, works here, and is raising his family here. Vance, his wife Ashley, and their boys Walker and William are proud to call our area home and are very involved in the community. As a small-town, general practice attorney, Vance knows the law and knows what needs to be done to make it tougher on criminals. Vance enjoys working his farm in McNairy County. An avid sportsman, Vance enjoys hunting dove and deer and sauger fishing. In Nashville, Vance will work to get our area back on the right track.


Governor Winfield Dunn visits to support Vance Dennis
The Honorable Winfield Dunn recently attended a campaign kick-off for Vance Dennis. Governor Dunn, who served as governor of Tennessee from 1970-1974, spoke to a large crowd gathered to support Vance. Governor Dunn was pleased to endorse Vance as the kind of leader we need to send to Nashville. Entertainment was provided by Turkey Creek Kids.
